I can be found here in my home office most nights and weekends working on the dreaded dissertation. I have exactly one year to complete the final product. I learned while in Iowa this summer that the proposal I had defended via teleconferencing in mid-June had been accepted. I am now in the process of running the project and getting a head start on the statistical analysis section.
My topic? Social determinants of health in a traditional Mayan village. In the "first" world, social determinants of health include work, innoculations, a certain level of income, etc. My project does a compare/contrast of first world and traditional values. Nothing that will change the world but relevant to my work now. More importantly, it is the last hoop I need to jump through to finish my doctorate.

it must be a relief to have your subject confirmed and feel like you can actually progress now.
